POSITION SPECIFICATION

VP, MARKETING AND CLIENT RELATIONS

Shine Associates, LLC has been retained to search, identify, and recruit a VP, Marketing and Client Relations on behalf of our client (Company’).  Position location will be candidate dependent.

CLIENT DESCRIPTION
 
Our client is a 100% employee-owned investment advisor based in Seattle, Washington. Founded in 1978 with the goal of representing the investment management needs of mostly Taft-Hartley trusts, the Company offers clients a wide range of real estate debt and equity, fixed income and stock strategies. As of September 30, 2025, the firm managed over $8.8 billion in assets.
As an investment manager to union trusts, the firm believes that strategy decisions must balance return opportunities with prudent risk considerations. VP, MARKETING AND CLIENT RELATIONS
 
The Vice President of Marketing and Client Relations is responsible for driving equity capital raising initiatives, managing client and consultant relationships, and executing strategic marketing campaigns. This role sits at the intersection of real estate finance and corporate communications, focusing on expanding the firm’s investor base (Taft-Hartley funds, public plans and institutional partners) while maintaining the firm’s brand equity.

The VP will oversee marketing campaigns, communications, and client and consultant engagement programs, ensuring alignment with the firm’s overall vision and investment philosophy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Business Development:
  • Secure equity commitments for real estate funds and real estate separate account portfolio management assignments
  • Engage in sales and marketing efforts, including the collaboration on marketing materials, presentations, and performance reports for current and prospective clients and consultants.
  • Collaborate closely with senior leadership, portfolio managers, and business development teams to support client acquisition and retention.
  • Attend industry events including industry conferences, client seminars and consultant conferences.
  • Analyze market trends, competitor positioning, and investor behavior to inform marketing strategies.

Client Relationship Management:
  • Lead client and consultant relationship strategies, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and retention.
  • Attend client and consultant meetings in support of existing client relationships
  • Represent the firm at client-sponsored events such as golf tournaments and holiday parties.
  • Work closely with portfolio managers and investment teams to understand client needs and provide tailored communications.
  • Serve as a senior point of contact for key clients, fostering trust and deepening relationships.

Marketing Strategy & Execution:
  • Implement firm’s marketing strategies to promote the firm’s services, capabilities, and thought leadership.
  • Coordinate with the internal marketing team on branding, digital marketing, content creation, public relations, and event management.
  • Monitor industry trends to inform marketing initiatives and maintain competitive positioning.

Business Development Support:
  • Partner with the business development team to identify and pursue new client opportunities.
  • Collaborate on development and modifications of client presentations, proposals, and marketing materials.
  • Track and report on marketing ROI and client engagement metrics.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Finance, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • 8+ years of marketing and client relations experience, preferably in asset management, investment management, or financial services.
  • Experience with Taft Hartley and public plan clients and consultants in addition to other institutional relationship exposure.
  • Strong understanding of capital markets and investment products.
  • Proven leadership experience managing marketing teams and client relationship programs.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and execute effectively in a fast-paced environment.
